The Design
With a market flooded with options, what sets Aizome’s Sheet Set apart from other platform frames? *The set is available with either an elasticated or drawstring bottom sheet. For our review, we focused on the elasticated version.
Chemical-Free Production
While it’s important for our bed to be encased in comfortable material, it’s equally important for the material to be completely safe. While the average bedding uses chemicals like formaldehyde, mercury, and lead, you can trust that Aizome’s bedding uses absolutely no chemicals, allowing you to rest easy throughout the night.
Aizome is actually a Japanese term for the plant-based dyeing in the ancient tradition of Indigo dyeing.
Exclusively Made From Plants
Aizome bedding is made exclusively from plants, providing comfort and softness that won’t irritate the skin. Their GOTS-certified Virgin Cotton and their plant-based natural indigo dye adds anti-inflammatory and antibacterial qualities. This also due to their ultrasonic dyeing technology, which provides the set’s vibrant color and the plants’ natural benefits.
Certified Skin Protection
If you have sensitive skin, this sheet set from Aizome’s might just be your perfect match. Accepted as non-irritating by the National Eczema Association, Aizome’s bed sheets are sure to give your skin the treatment it deserves.
The sheets has several features that prevent skin irritation. The sateen weaving in the sheets prevent irritation by friction, the use of zero chemicals prohibits breakouts, and the indigo’s antibacterial properties prevent pathogenic irritants.
Made Sustainably
This sheet set is great if you tend to be an eco-conscious shopper. Aizome strictly sources their GOTS cotton and dyeing plants under fair and sustainable conditions. They even work to eliminate any form of pollution by using a combination of plant-based dyes and ultrasound.
Sleep Test: How Do Aizome Natural Indigo Bed Sheets Really Feel?
I have found through testing high-quality sheets that there tends to be a theme with those that use legitimately top tier materials and manufacturing processes, they all live in this strange world where they seem to be two things at once.
- They are cool-to-the-touch while also keeping you warm.
- They have a crisp feel while also being soft on your skin.
- They have a sturdiness to them while still feeling light and airy.
The only way to really get a feel for any form of bedding is to spend some time sleeping on or in it. I have been using these sheets for 2 weeks now and here is what I have found:
Feel/Touch
The Aizome sheets have a cool-to-the-touch feel that somehow lasts throughout the night. They would definitely suit those that sleep hot more than cool sleepers but this shouldn’t be a deal-breaker for those on the cooler end of the spectrum.
They have that mix of crispness and softness that everyone should look for in bed sheets but can be hard to find.
Quality
As soon as you remove the sheets from the box and the cloth bag they arrive in you can instantly tell that they warrant their price tag. The delivery presentation and unboxing process set the stage for a superior experience from the moment they arrive at your door.
There is a weight to the sheets that differentiates them from cheaper sheets on the market. I have only used them for 2 weeks but durability does not seem like it would be an issue from first impressions. Aizome is very confident in this and offer an additional wear and tear warranty.
Stitching/Weave
The Aizome Indigo Sheets use a sateen weave during the manufacturing process, allowing them to resist bacteria while giving the sheets their soft yet crisp feel.
Sleep Quality
The testing period for these sheets took place in the winter of 2020 so my home heating is set fairly high. This usually means that I sweat a bit during the night, from the first night using these sheets I was surprised by how quickly this was no longer an issue.
This is by far my favorite thing about the Aizome sheets, the temperature regulation is among the best of any sheets I have ever slept in. I do not understand the science behind it but these sheets kept me cool yet warm all night long.
The pillowcases have the same cool feel to them while also having an extra ‘clean’ feel, maybe it’s a placebo effect from reading about the anti-bacterial properties of the materials or the certifications they have received (National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance™).
Aizome requires all batches of their sheet sets to pass a toxicology test and they even put them to the test vs other sheets. They even state on their website that “our indigo bed sheets are 3x more antibacterial than Japanese hospital-grade bed sheets”.
So, I am inclined to believe that these sheets really do offer several health/skin benefits, even if only as preventative measures, to those that spend their nights between them.
