Lull originated as a mattress in a box business when its CEO, Sven Klein, and his wife took a trip to shop for a new mattress. Even after buying one, Klein and his wife were still dissatisfied with the mattress’s support as well as the entire shopping process.

Klein particularly disliked the confusion that came along with navigating different mattress brands while also comparing prices from multiple different retail shops. So, Klein crafted Lull in 2015 to address the problems of sleep discomfort and complicated shopping.

Ever since its fruition, the Lull Mattress has taken a wide appreciation from a large audience, including the Today Show. Klein’s mission to create an easily accessible mattress in a box has clearly succeeded, especially for people who prefer to try out a mattress at home rather than in a store and avoid brick and mortar store shopping.

If you’re looking for more than just a mattress, Lull also offers plenty of other accessories for purchase, including a hypoallergenic and waterproof mattress protector, a duvet comforter and even a bed frame made with metal or wood.

Here, we’ll review the Lull Mattress to help you better understand how it could improve the way you sleep.

The Lull Mattress

Memory foam mattresses are probably the most popular mattress type to purchase. The name alone is so well-known that people already trust it. And, with only one mattress to offer, Lull makes it easy when it comes to decision time.

You won’t have to compare and contrast model after model while making your decision. It is, however, important to take a close look at what the mattress offers underneath its ultra-soft outer cover.

Comfort Layer

The very first foam layer at 1.5 inches, the Comfort Layer, is made with gel-infused memory foam to provide cooling at the very forefront of your mattress. Even though you’re sleeping on a memory foam mattress, you still get the cooling effect that most soft mattresses miss out on.

This layer, blue speckles and all, brings about targeted pressure relief to every inch of your body. You’ll feel your body slightly contouring to its cool comfort.

Transition Layer

Next comes Lull’s Transition Layer with 1.5 inches of transition foam to reinforce your every move. This is the layer you need to pay attention to if you share a bed with a partner who frequently tosses and turns.

With just the right amount of firmness, this layer will prevent you from feeling like you’re sinking.

Support Layer

Finally, a 7-inch polyurethane foam layer that Lull refers to as the Support Layer completes the Lull mattress. This layer is where the primary support will come from.

The Support Layer can benefit sleepers of all positions by balancing firmness levels in the prior two layers. Be sure this layer rests on a quality bed frame to keep it from falling.

Pricing

Because Lull only has one mattress, the pricing breakdown is extremely straightforward. Their pricing is as follows, before any discounts:

  • Twin: $650
  • Twin XL: $700
  • Full: $850
  • Queen: $950
  • King: $1,000
  • California King: $1,000

Some customers may prefer to pay for their mattress in installments rather than upfront. If that sounds like something you’d prefer, Lull offers a monthly payment plan through Affirm Financing, with as low as 0% APR. You can pay in 6-18 month installments, based on how you qualify. To create a payment plan, simply select the Affirm option upon checkout during your online order, and you can see your qualification status.

If you’re ordering more than ten Lull mattresses, check out Lull’s Bulk Order Discount program on their website. It’s a great option for hotel managers, universities or anyone else operating a business that requires a multitude of nice mattresses.

To apply the discount to your order, simply fill out the contact form under “Corporate Sales” and someone will follow up about your request in as soon as one business day.

Lull – Layer Materials

  3. 1.5″ Transition Foam

Material

When it comes to quality material, the Lull Mattress doesn’t mess around. Comparable to traditional memory foam mattresses, Lull makes their mattresses with all foam materials, with one exception: their top layer is infused with special cooling gel.

All Lull mattresses are made in locations in the United States, Vietnam, and China. Lull uses three layers of CertiPUR-US certified foam. This means Lull does not use any harmful chemicals, ozone depleters, or heavy metals to create their products.

On the soft and stretchy outer cover, made with polyester and rayon, you may notice a small pocket/sock, where fire retardant fiberglass resides.

This is part of the CertiPUR-US manufacturing process, as the fiberglass is harmless to sleepers but also keeps your mattress safe from any harmful heat or chemical interactions.

Although the outer cover can be removed, it is highly recommended not to do so, as it could interfere with the pocket. And, it’d be difficult to put the cover back on the mattress once it came off.

Best Sleeping Positions

Looking for a memory foam mattress that will be comfortable for all sleeping positions, even back and stomach sleepers? With a firmness rating of 6 out of 10, Lull will provide comfort, no matter how you sleep. Take note that if you prefer an extremely soft mattress, a 6/10 is on the firmer side.

Side sleepers will enjoy the top two soft foam layers, while back and stomach sleepers, who generally require firmer support, will appreciate the firm base foam layer.

Even if you’re a combination sleeper, or if you share a bed with a partner who sleeps differently than you, the Lull mattress can accommodate you with its three layers of foam support. The Lull mattress won’t feel too firm or too soft, but rather, just right.

As far as weight capacity? Lull’s website states that their mattress can accommodate two people, each weighing up to 250 pounds. So, those looking for a mattress that can more readily support plus-size sleepers should look into the Titan; a bed optimized for stomach sleepers, especially.

Temperature Regulation

The first thing you think of when you think of a memory foam mattress is usually not temperature regulation. That’s because traditional memory foam tends to suck up your body’s natural heat and keep it in one place.

With the Lull Mattress, however, things are quite different. Because the very first layer of foam is gel-infused, Lull already has an advantage over traditional memory foam mattresses when it comes to cooling capabilities.

So if you frequently wake up during the night because of feeling overheated, you are probably missing a cooling component in your mattress. Lull takes this problem to heart with their very first layer.

Just below the gel-infused foam layer is a supportive foam layer that also regulates body heat during the night. It works as the backing behind the top gel-infused foam layer.

Built to fight heat at the very first layer, the Lull mattress promotes healthy temperature regulation, even though it’s made from all foam.

Motion Transfer

Think about any foam-based mattress. If you jump around on one of these mattresses, you’ll likely notice the foam doesn’t move around too much after it’s contoured to your shape.

The middle layer found in the Lull mattress is where you will find support to reduce the amount of motion transfer. Even as you move around at night, get in or out of bed or watch your partner toss and turn during the night, you’ll likely feel little to no motion transfer because of this second foam layer.

Sinkage

Where does the firmest support come from in the Lull mattress? It turns out, the bottom layer provides the right amount of backing to prevent major sinkage, which, in turn, helps better align your spine during sleeping hours.

Even as a foam mattress, the Lull comes with minimal sinkage. This is true because the most sinkage is at the top two layers, where your body needs some contouring, while the firm and final layer works to prevent the mattress from sinking to a point of moving through your bed frame.

To further provide the least amount of uncomfortable sinkage possible, Lull compresses their mattresses in a special way when it comes time for shipment.

This allows the mattress to “bounce back” to its normal form, so that even after it’s been stuck in a box for an extended amount of time, it won’t be squished permanently.

Edge Support

Like most foam mattresses, the Lull’s main support comes from its foam-contouring function. With a soft top layer, however, it’s to be expected that the Lull Mattress does not have ideal edge support.

Usually mattresses with the best edge support have firm surfaces that do not have much motion transfer, either. Edge support should not be too big of a deal if you rarely find yourself at the edge of your bed, though.

You can also address this problem by purchasing the correct size mattress. When it comes down to it, though, you will need to determine whether or not a soft top layer or great edge support is more important to you when it comes to decision time about a Lull mattress.

Warranty, Trial Length & Return Process

Lull offers a 10-year warranty for their mattress. The warranty covers body indentation greater than one inch, fabric tearing and manufacturing flaws and applies only to the original mattress purchaser, so long as it was purchased online directly through Lull’s website or from an authorized Lull distributor.

If you need warranty coverage, you must provide your receipt as proof of purchase, a photo of the damage and a description of what went wrong. Expect Lull to respond in up to 10 business days.

To best accommodate you with a new mattress, Lull offers a 100-night trial period. If, at any point during this trial period, you find that you don’t like your mattress, you can return it for free. You’ll get a full refund, so long as there are no major damages (i.e. stains, tears or other improper deterioration).

Lull will send a crew to pick up your mattress and remove it from your bed. It is recommended to give yourself about 30 days to fully adjust to your new Lull mattress, though, before you decide to return it.

Once someone has picked up your returned mattress, they will look for a nearby charity that accepts gently used mattresses for donations.

Shipping & Set-Up Process

Lull ships your mattress through FedEx Ground shipping, free of charge. Estimated delivery time is 1-4 business days. The one downside to Lull’s shipping process is that they do not offer a White Glove Delivery service like some other mattress companies do.

You will have to set up your new Lull mattress and dispose of your old mattress on your own terms.

Thankfully, though, the mattress assembly is rather straightforward. To set it up, simply remove the rolled mattress from its box, remove the plastic wrapping and roll it onto your bed frame.

Lull’s website recommends not waiting more than three weeks to unbox and set up your mattress.

After you set up your mattress, expect it to take a few hours to do the majority of its expanding. After one or two days, your Lull mattress should be fully expanded.

Points to Consider Before You Buy

Lull’s certifications

Aside from using CertiPUR-US certified foam, Lull also has two other noteworthy certifications that prove its safety and quality. Lull is a Sustainable Furnishing Council member, meaning their products use minimal carbon emissions and pollutants during the manufacturing process.

Plus, Lull packages their products for shipment in a way that is healthy for the environment by using less material. They like to compare their mattress in a box as the size of a miniature fridge.

Lull is also a member of the Mattress Recycling Council. If you try your mattress out but happen to decide to return it after the trial period, the pickup crew will do their best to find a charity that will accept it as a donation.

Plus, Lull aims to use recyclable materials when making their mattresses.

Your bed frame

The Lull mattress works on any flat bed frame, including a flat platform bed, a metal- or wood-slatted frame or even an adjustable bed. You can also place your Lull mattress directly on the floor to sleep on, if you don’t already own a bed frame.

The environment

Believe it or not, it takes a lot of resources to make a single mattress. If you prioritize the environment’s health when you purchase products, you will welcome the fact that Lull makes their products under high standards as a member of the Sustainable Furnishing Council.

They take multiple steps to avoid harming the environment during their manufacturing process, including reducing carbon emissions and avoiding non-recyclable materials.

Your experience with Traditional memory foam Mattresses

When switching to a new mattress, you have to accept it will take some time for your body to fully get used to its feel. This is especially true if you share a mattress or if your new mattress will have characteristics that you are not accustomed to.

If you’ve ever slept on a memory foam mattress, then you are probably aware that they do not always come with exceptional cooling capabilities.

You may not be used to gel-infused memory foam or even prefer it. It’s crucial to know that the Lull mattress is different than most memory foam mattresses when it comes to temperature regulation.

Its first foam layer is made with gel-infused memory foam to best provide you with a cooling effect that is unmatched by most other memory foam mattresses. So think: do you want your new mattress to have a cooling feature?

FAQ

Most frequent brand questions

How long does a Lull mattress last?

Lull offers a 10-year warranty on their mattresses. Just like with any other mattress, the precautions you take to take care of your mattress will affect its lifespan.

Here are a few tips to increase the amount of time your Lull mattress can last:
– Spot clean your mattress with warm water and gentle detergent after any spills.
– Vacuum your mattress every so often to fluff it up and remove dust.
– Rotate, not flip, your mattress every few months to reduce the amount of body indentation at the surface. Lull mattresses should never be flipped.
– Buy a Lull mattress cover to prevent spills from staining your mattress. The Lull mattress cover happens to be waterproof, stain-resistant, and hypoallergenic.

Do you need a box spring with a Lull mattress?

You don’t need a box spring with a Lull mattress, but it will work. The Lull mattress goes well with any kind of bed frame, so long as the frame keeps the mattress from sagging.

Can you sleep on a Lull mattress right away?

As we’ve mentioned before, it will take a few hours for your Lull mattress to accomplish the majority of its expansion. Expect your Lull mattress to fully expand after a few days. But in the meantime, you can still sleep on your Lull mattress the day you receive it and set it up.

Is Lull mattress good for side sleepers?

Yes! The great thing about the Lull Mattress is that it’s made with three layers of memory foam but isn’t too soft or too firm.

Side sleepers usually require somewhat of a soft support system from their mattress so that their hips and shoulders, where the most weight falls on the mattress, aren’t strained the next morning. The Lull’s first layer is made with soft, adjusting memory foam that also happens to be gel-infused.

Is Lull mattress toxic?

No, the Lull Mattress is non-toxic. This is true because all foams used in a Lull Mattress are CertiPUR-US certified. This certification prevents the use of ozone depleters, harmful flame retardants or heavy metals during the manufacturing process.

Ultimately, a CertiPUR-US certification also reduces the amount of off-gassing a mattress will have, which means less smell and less chemicals used in the process of making your mattress.
