Puffy offers a great mattress for all types of sleepers; take a look at the latest offer on the Original, Lux & Royal models.

Puffy Models

Puffy offers three mattress style options: the Original, Lux, and Royal. Each is a little thicker than the previous one, adding extra layers to better suit the needs of different types of sleepers. All Puffy mattresses are made of pressure-relieving, gel-infused memory foam.

Puffy Original

A Puffy original mattress.

It’s the bed that started it all. What can you expect if you order this style? Let’s break it down.

The original Puffy is a 10” bed made of 3 foam layers that should deliver your body the support and pressure relief it needs. Those who are fans of memory foam’s shape-hugging abilities but not its heat-trapping qualities should appreciate the top two layers of this mattress.

That’s because the ClimateComfort™ and Cooling Cloud Gel layers work together to provide comforting pressure relief while working to regulate temperature and ensure you don’t sleep hot. That makes the Original better than traditional memory foam beds when it comes to preventing overheating.

The firm Core Support layer is designed to provide stability to everything above it. It is also specially designed to help align the spine. Now, any sleep expert will tell you that proper spinal alignment is crucial to waking up with fewer aches and pains.

That makes this bottom layer a welcome addition for those who want a conforming bed that doesn’t sink quite as much as regular memory foam.

Everything is wrapped up in a stain-resistant, washable cover that’s easy to clean. But this cover doesn’t just keep your mattress clean; it’s OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. This certification means that the cover has been rigorously tested for harmful substances.

So, just what does it feel like to slumber on the Original? This bed is rated at a firmness level of 6 to 8 on a 10-point scale (aka, medium firm). This firmness level is fairly standard and suits most people’s sleeping preferences.

Puffy Lux

The Lux is the next “step up” style. Here’s what you can expect from it.

The Lux takes the basics of the Original, then adds an exclusive comfort layer and a layer of contour-adapt coils to adjust it for those who prefer a slightly softer sleeping surface.

Like the Original, the 12” Lux also offers temperature-regulating technology combined with a supportive foam core layer. Taken together, these layers offer a fair amount of comfort and support.

What sets the Lux mattress apart from its Original counterpart, however, is the addition of a fourth layer of body-adapting dual Cloud foam. This high-density foam acts as a sort of transitional layer between the top two layers and the bottom one.

The result? This Puffy mattress is a little less firm, which helps some people better align their spines. This bed falls somewhere between 5 to 7 on a 10-point firmness scale (aka, the bed has a nice medium-plush feel).

The Puffy Lux is a great choice for side sleepers as the additional support foam offers a greater level of pressure relief on the specific pressure points that a side sleeper usually struggles with.

Also like the Original, everything is wrapped in a OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified cover. This cover resists stains, so you won’t have to worry much if you accidentally spill something on your bed. And if you do spill something? Simply throw the cover in the wash.

All in all, the Lux is fairly similar to the Original, but is slightly less firm, which can help some people better align their spines. Those who enjoy softer sleeping surfaces will probably prefer the Lux to the Original.

Puffy Royal

A thick Puffy Royal mattress in a dimly lit room.

Will you truly feel like royalty when you sleep on this 14” mattress? Let’s take a closer look.

Everything starts off with the 1.5” top layer, which incorporates cooling beads to offset the heat-trapping properties of memory foam. The next 2” layer takes temperature-regulation technology a step further.

It uses specially designed foam that prevents heat-trapping (aka, your best friend if you tend to sleep hot). This foam is also perfect for relieving trapped tension in the body. The third layer is all about promoting better airflow for even greater temperature control.

So, the top few layers are designed to offer the best of memory foam while keeping sleepers cool. For those who easily overheat, this design could make the Royal a more attractive option than the Original or Lux.

It’s not just the vertical design of this bed that distinguishes it from the Original and Lux, though. This mattress is separated into 5 distinct horizontal zones, each one optimized to support a specific part of the body.

Why the 5 zones? Well, different parts of the body need different levels of support, after all. So, the Royal will cushion the head differently than it will the feet, for example. Side sleeping places more pressure on your hips and shoulders than spending the night on your back or stomach. The Royal would be the best option

Like the other two options, the Royal is also wrapped in a washable, stain-resistant cover. It’s OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, too, so you know it’s been tested for harmful chemicals.

For those with a larger budget and who want extremely customized pressure relief and support, the Royal could be the most attractive of the three Puffy options.

Let’s first take a closer look at the Original and Lux options.

At first glance, these two options are fairly similar in terms of construction material. However, what really sets the two apart is the additional 2” layer inside the Lux.

Its unique Body Adapting Dual Foam layer provides some transition between the firm core base and the softer memory foam tops. So, this layer adds greater comfort and better body-hugging abilities to the Lux.

Which one of these two styles is right for you?

The answer to that question depends on a few factors. The Original is more affordable than the Lux and a little firmer, too. If you like firmer beds (and saving money), the Original could be for you.

However, if you have a slightly larger budget and enjoy softer sleeping surfaces, the Lux might be preferable. Side sleepers should go for the Lux whereas stomach and back sleepers should look at the Original.

But what about the Royal?

Those who want absolutely unmatched comfort—and have the budget to match it—would likely enjoy the Royal. This model includes more foam and heat-fighting technology, meaning it sleeps softer and cooler than the previous two models.

So, side sleepers, hot sleepers, and those who just enjoy extra-soft beds can find a lot to love here.

So you’re wondering which Puffy mattress will fit your bed frame? All three options are available in Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King & Cali King. The measurements of each size are as follows:

  • Twin – 38″ x 75″
  • Twin XL – 38″ x 80″
  • Full – 54″ x 75″
  • Queen – 60″ x 80″
  • King – 76″ x 80″
  • Cali King – 72″ x 84″

The difference between each model comes in the thickness – the original is 10 inches thick, the lux is 12 inches and the royal has a thickness of 14 inches.

Puffy offers a great mattress for all types of sleepers; take a look at the latest offer on the Original, Lux & Royal models.

How did we come to these scores? You can check out our process below.

Noise Control

With no innersprings and decent motion isolation, all three options are fairly silent.

Temperature Regulation

All three options incorporate lots of memory foam, which is notorious for trapping heat. Fortunately, all three take this characteristic into consideration. So, naturally, they incorporate temperature-regulating technology to help prevent you from overheating.

Specifically, the Original and Lux both incorporate Cooling Gel and ClimateComfort™ layers to help fight the heat when you sleep. For memory foam mattresses, these layers do their jobs pretty well. That’s why we rate these options so highly.

The Royal comes out slightly ahead, though. Its added cool foam layer incorporates climate-adaptive technology that helps improve airflow and adjusts your temperature based on the environment you’re in.

Sinkage

If you’re getting a foam bed, you’re probably looking for something that will neatly hug your body. So, how do all three options stack up? Once again, fairly well.

The Original option is medium firm, coming in at about a 7 on a 10-point scale. By incorporating memory foam, this style does a decent job of adjusting to your body shape. So, we give this option an A-.

The Lux fairs a little better. Coming in at about a 6 on the same scale, this bed is medium plush. The Body Adapting Dual Foam layer unique to this option helps the bed conform to your body just a little bit better. That’s why we’ve given the Lux an A in this area.

The Royal naturally fairs the best of all three options. For starters, it incorporates body-hugging materials throughout the 14” of its design. What makes this style stand out, though, is its five-zone design.

With these five zones, the Royal is uniquely designed to sink to specific sections of the body in a way that few competitors can match. That’s why it’s earned an A+ from us in this area.

Motion Isolation

Motion transfer is a large factor to consider for couples. If you’re sharing a bed with a light sleeper, you know the struggle of trying to remain as still as possible to avoid jostling a sleeping companion.

A bed that excels at motion isolation helps alleviate some of this stress by preventing your partner from feeling you move around a lot throughout the night around by absorbing the movement into the memory foam.

How does Puffy hold up in this regard? The Original does fairly well here; its incorporated memory foam effectively isolates motion. The Lux does slightly better thanks to its unique body-adapting layer.

Once again, the Royal comes out on top. This 14” thick mattress will hug each sleeper in absolute comfort and limit motion transfer incredibly well due to the additional foam layers.

Edge Support

Edge support might not be the first consideration that comes into mind when you’re mattress shopping, but it definitely shouldn’t be overlooked.

How sturdy the edge of a bed is can be a good indicator of its overall quality. Plus, you’ll want some extra support for when you enter and exit your bed.

Memory foam beds typically don’t do as well as other types of bedding when it comes to edge support; after all, they’re designed to sink more than other varieties. However, it is possible to find a body-hugging bed that also offers reasonable support along its edges.

For foam bedding, Puffy does okay here. The Original and Lux both offer adequate enough edge support. The Royal once again performs slightly better here, although not as well as some latex, innerspring, or hybrids competitors.

Reliability, Warranty, Trial Period & Returns

Are you asking yourself, Can I really trust an online mattress company? Fair question. As far as online mattress retailers go, though, this brand actually is pretty trustworthy. In fact, Puffy has received an A+ rating from BBB (Better Business Bureau).

This rating essentially means they’ve been rated as being an effectively transparent business that works to resolve customer complaints, should they arise.

Puffy has also gained lots of positive recognition in recent years not just for their business practices, but also for the quality of their products. ForbesUS Weekly, and Consumer Reports have all raved about this brand. The website even displays over 5,000 five-star reviews from satisfied customers.

So, just why does everyone love Puffy? Well, the majority of people positively note the quality of their products, the selection, and the quality of services.

Let’s break it down.

Domestic Manufacturing and Free Delivery

Puffy proudly declares that their mattresses are made in the USA. This practice not only supports American workers, but also conveniently cuts prices for the consumer.

This domestic production helps Puffy offer free shipping to anywhere within the contiguous United States. Fortunately, eager customers won’t have to wait long to get their new mattresses, either. These beds typically arrive within 2-5 business days.

Low-risk Online Shopping

It might seem counterintuitive to buy beds online, and Puffy is an online-only brand. That fact alone will rightfully worry some people who want to test beds out before they buy them. However, as far as online shopping for mattresses go, Puffy has done a decent job of reducing potential customers’ fears.

Puffy offers a 101 night sleep trial. This period allots a few months’ time to test out the bed and gives you adequate time to determine if this is really like sleeping on a cloud. While this mattress trial period is great, what happens if someone doesn’t like a Puffy mattress?

Once again, Puffy understands people’s hesitancy to shop online. To help further alleviate some of those fears, they also offer free returns.

But what if someone decides to keep their mattress but something happens to it outside of the trial period? Once again, Puffy actually does deliver on their promise of providing a hassle-free online mattress-shopping experience: they offer a lifetime warranty on their beds.

Financing Available

Investing in a new mattress isn’t always cheap. Those who are interested can receive financing for their new bed via Klarna. After receiving approval from Klarna, it’s possible to get 0% APR financing if everything is paid for within a 6 or 12-month period.

Puffy Original Complaints

When reading through verified customer Puffy mattress reviews the general recurring complaints tend to be:

  • The lack of edge support.
  • The bed not lending itself to sitting up in bed to watch TV or read and there is slightly too much sinkage around the seated area due to the concentrated pressure.

Puffy Lux Mattress Complaints

  • The Puffy Lux is the softest of the range of mattresses the company offers and is therefore the best mattress for side sleepers so many of the complaints center around issues related to other sleep positions, especially stomach sleeping.
  • Some find there to be slightly too much ‘sink’ which can lead to sleeping warmer than desired.
  •  Stomach sleepers have issues with their hips sinking.

Puffy Royal Mattress Complaints

  • The customer complaints for the Royal are similar to those of the Puffy Lux. Some find the bed too soft overall and dislike the slight ‘sink effect’.

Review Summary & Ideal Customer Breakdown

If you read a lot of mattress reviews, you will have noticed that foam mattresses make up a huge percentage of the industry. There’s a reason memory foam bedding is so popular.

Its elasticity conforms well to the body, which adds comfortable support for individual pressure points along the body. However, it also has a tendency to overheat.

Puffy beds all incorporate foam to reap the benefits of its elastic, body-forming abilities.

However, they also add temperature-regulating technology to help offset the heat-trapping qualities of regular foam. So, when it comes to foam bedding that doesn’t overheat, Puffy does a fairly decent job.

Plenty of people may have valid concerns about ordering a new mattress online. As far as ordering mattresses online goes, though, Puffy is a lower-risk investment.

With free shipping and delivery, a 101 night sleep trial, 3 options to choose from, and a lifetime warranty, Puffy offers a lot for an online-only retailer.

Who will a Puffy bed work well for? Those who are ready to try something new and enjoy the soft feel of cooling cloud foam. With a few styles and firmness options, these beds can suit a wide range of sleepers.

Who wouldn’t we recommend the Puffy mattress for? As with many foam mattresses the Puffy mattress is not ideal for stomach sleepers as it allows their hips to sag, putting pressure on their lower back.

If you’re looking for a quick breakdown of this Puffy mattress review, take a look at our checkpoints below.

We think you’d enjoy a Puffy mattress if you:

  • Enjoy the foam feel of a memory foam mattress.
  • Are looking for a mattress with great pressure relief.
  • Are a side sleeper
  • Have hip and shoulder pain.
  • Sleep with a partner and move around a lot throughout the night.
  • Enjoy softer beds.
  • Want a bed with cooling technology.

A Puffy mattress may not be the best for you if you:

  • Are a larger individual who sinks into their mattress a lot.
  • Do not like the slight ‘sink’ that comes with a foam mattress
  • Don’t have a way to set up the mattress on your own, as there is no white-glove set-up service available.
  • Don’t want to order a mattress before trying it out yourself.
  • Want an extra-firm sleeping surface.
  • Do not want the slight off gassing that comes with a new mattress from a bed in a box company.

Points to Consider Before You Buy

Old Bed Disposal

Puffy does not pick up old mattresses. If you want to get rid of your old bed, you’ll have to see what the rules and procedures are for disposing of mattresses in your local area. If you are looking for a  mattress that comes with white glove delivery, we recommend the Saatva mattress.

Mattress Set-Up

Unlike some mattress companies, Puffy does not offer a white-glove delivery service. For elderly individuals or those with back pain, that could be a serious deterrent to ordering a mattress in a box. For these individuals, a compressed bed can be heavy and bulky to move and set up.

Your Maximum Weight

Puffy can support up to 350 lbs on each side. Those who want a mattress with a greater weight capacity should explore the Titan by Brooklyn Bedding, which is specially made with the needs of taller and heavier individuals in mind.

Your Sleeping Type

However you sleep, Puffy promises to have the perfect solution for you. How do those claims stack up to reality? As it turns out, decently.

This brand offers three-bed options at varying firmness. Each has several layers designed to both support the body and conform to its contours. So, these beds can accommodate a wide range of sleepers.

FAQ

Most frequent Puffy Mattress questions

Which Puffy mattress is best?

The answer to this question depends entirely on your preferences. If you didn’t want to read our full Puffy mattress review, here’s a quick summary.

If you have a tighter budget and enjoy medium-firm mattresses, the Original might be for you. Those with a slightly higher budget and enjoy softer sleeping surfaces might prefer the Lux. If you have a large budget and easily overheat when you sleep, you might like the Royal.

Does Puffy mattress need a box spring?

Puffy claims their mattresses do not need a box spring. For those who use platform frames, though, it could pay to be a little cautious.

Try having your support slats be no more than 3″ apart. You can also discover specially designed bed frames from Puffy by visiting their official site.

Why do we suggest playing it safe? Well, Puffy incorporates lots of foam into their mattresses. Now, memory foam beds are known to sink. That’s why many manufacturers advise against placing this type of bedding on a platform frame.

Since a platform bed frame doesn’t use a box spring, a sinking mattress can fall through gaps between the frame’s support slats. That not only means less comfortable sleeping for you, but it can also shorten the lifespan of the mattress itself.

To be fair, Puffy does incorporate a dense support layer at the base of their beds, which helps give everything greater stability. So, you can use a Puffy on a platform frame. However, to be on the safe side, make sure the supporting slats are close together (no more than 3″ apart).

How long does it take for Puffy to expand?

Puffy claims that their mattresses will expand in just minutes. That’s technically true, but it will take longer for everything to fully expand and firm up. This process can take 24 hours or more, which is standard for compressed foam bedding.

Is Puffy safe?

What’s inside one of these mattresses? While each one will differ a bit in composition (you can see more below in detail), all incorporate CertiPUR-US certified memory foam. CertiPUR-US certified materials have undergone testing for harmful substances. According to the official CertiPUR site, this certification means that foam is made without:

– Ozone depleters
– The flame retardants PDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”)
– Heavy metals like lead or mercury
– Formaldehyde
– Certain phthalates
– More than 0.5 parts per million volatile organic compound emissions.

In other words, foams with this certification should assuage safety concerns. The mattress covers are also OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, another third-party testing program for harmful chemicals. So, when Puffy says that their beds are safe, they have valid certifications to back them up.

Is Puffy a charitable company?

Yes! You’re not the only one who will benefit when you order from Puffy. When your bed arrives, simply take a photo of yourself on it and post the photo to social media with #puffydonation and @puffymattress.

Why? Because Puffy promises to donate a mattress to a child in need for every 10 correctly tagged photos shared on social media. You can learn more about this program here. So, if you value charitable donations, this fact might make Puffy a more attractive option for you.
